In 1939 the UP initiated less-than-carload (LCL) express service and ordered 130 double door boxcars for this purpose. While the special merchandise service was discontinued during World War II, these cars were assigned to regular express car service and saw nearly 30 more years of service in UP's passenger trains. Weaver has the only O Scale mold which is prototypically correct for UP's 40' DD Express Boxcars.
This car is the third in our series of UP Express Boxcars. The road numbers selected are prototypically correct for the period 1952-1968.
