Description

According to Southern Pacific Freight Cars Vol. 3, the 200 cars in class A-50-8 were originally built in October 1925 for the T&NO. This class pioneered the use of steel ends on SP auto cars, but did not have end doors. In December 1935, 25 of these cars were transferred to the Pacific Lines and were renumbered. In January 1936, the side doors were widened from 12' 6" (door & a half) to 14' 6" (double doors) and Evans auto loaders were installed. These features make the Atlas Trainman 50' Single-Sheathed Boxcar a particularly good model of a post-1935 SP class A-50-8 50' boxcar. These cars lasted on the SP into the late 1950's. The weigh date on our custom run is October 1946.

  • Metal body-mounted couplers and sprung die-cast 50 ton Bettendorf trucks with scale wheels
  • Minimum radius curve: 36"
